Prototype Schematic

Here’s the schematic for the next prototype. This is board revision 4, but the prototype will in fact be the third one that we produce.

BlipBox v4 Schematic

BlipBox v4 Schematic

We’ve already decided on a couple of minor changes, such as swapping the nets going to pins 5 and 6 on the AtMega, in order to free up a PWM capable pin. Also planning to make the trimpot optional and put a fixed resistor in series to set minimum IREF value for the TLC5940.

The schematic is published under the GNU GPL v3.

I really really want one of these.
I would be happy to build one.
    Only I don’t know how.
Is the schematic sufficient information to build?
That’s a modified Arduino schematic, correct?
Should I order one? Which one?
    I own a soldering iron.
    Please help! 🙂

      Thanks Kai!

I’m planning to put out a kit, with the components and custom pcb, which will be a lot easier than building from the schematic.

Otherwise yes, it can be built on e.g. vero board connected to an arduino but there’s a lot of connections to make.

Which arduino/freeduino/boarduino etc to choose is very much a matter of taste! For a first experience you can’t go wrong with the new official arduino: Duemilanove.
It plugs into USB and is bus powered, so you can be up and running within minutes of grabbing it out of the postman’s hands. Though the same could probably be said for many of the clones, too.

woah, thanks for rescuing my comment and giving me some things to think about and possibly do on the way to blipbox bliss.

the duemilanove (gotta love the Italian names) looks quite cheap!!
